The Woodlands Children’s Museum
The Woodlands Children’s Museum is a non-profit establishment which aims to educate and entertain children through fun exhibits, activities, and events. Here, children of all ages can have fun, learn new things, be inspired, and gain a lifelong sense of wonder.
History
The museum was established on February 2005 on Market Street, along Pavilion Way. After a year, it moved to The Woodlands Mall, where it built a membership of over 2,200 families.
In 2008, more than 72,000 people visited the museum, while over 50,000 walked through its entrance between January and June of 2009.
In 2010, construction began for the museum’s new home – an expansive 11,000-square-foot site within the Panther Creek Village Shopping Center. It now features more than 6,000 square feet of exhibit space, along with four large classrooms and multiple party rooms. It officially opened its doors to the public on July 10, 2010.
Today, the museum continues to inspire thousands of young children. In addition to regularly maintaining and updating all exhibits, the staff, along with many kind volunteers, all help organize discovery workshops and educational events throughout the year.
Exhibits
Exhibits at The Woodlands Children’s Museum are designed for children aged seven years or younger. Each exhibit encourages hands-on learning, stimulates a child’s curiosity, and provides fun opportunities for new discoveries.
The exhibits focus on the early child development stage by helping children improve their hand-eye coordination, imagination, and social skills.
Workshops
The Woodlands Children’s Museum provides countless opportunities for learning through a variety of different workshops which aim to foster creativity and encourage self-expression.
Each workshop seeks to develop a young child’s imagination through arts, movement, play, building, collecting, and other fun activities.
The museum regularly holds workshops during the spring, summer and fall. Some of these workshops include:
Early Childhood Explorations (2 & 3 year-olds) – These workshops are focused on helping toddlers discover new ways of playing and learning. Fine motor skills, attention, and concentration are developed using a variety of simple activities such as dancing, mixing, stacking, building, painting, and matching.
Kinder-Ready Workshops (4 & 5 year-olds) – The Kinder-Ready Workshops aim to improve reading ability, comprehension, number recognition, and fine motor skills through enjoyable games and activities. Children will have fun while learning through sing-alongs, interactive dramatic play sessions, art projects, and science observations. These workshops also help encourage the love of books by presenting different storybook themes each week.
Science and Technology Workshops (5 to 11 year-olds) – The museum’s Science and Technology Workshops are designed to help children discover the many wonders of science. Through investigation, observation, identification and other basic scientific methods, children embark on an educational journey where they will learn about other planets, the weather, minerals, rocketry, and other subjects.
