Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion ranked #1 outdoor amphitheater in the world

From Elton John to Frank Sinatra, Chicago to Aerosmith, these are just some of the biggest names in music known to have graced the stage of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

For 2015, one of the busiest outdoor concert and performance venues in the country was recognized for a distinct title. The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion garnered the top ranking among outdoor amphitheaters in the world.

Located in The Woodlands, the outer suburbs of Houston, the famous amphitheater seats around 16,500 people. Owned and operated by the non-profit organization The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, it first opened its doors in April 1990. Since then, the Woodlands Pavilion, as it’s also known, has featured legendary artists on its stage.

The Pavilion’s rise to the top

Recently, Pollstar magazine, declared the Woodlands Pavilion as the Cynthia Woods Pavilionamphitheater with the highest ticket sales.

It has sold 395,829 tickets from January to September. The Texas concert venue has always ranked high on the concert industry expert’s standing. And for its impressive performance, it got the top ranking this year.

Jerry MacDonald, president and CEO of The Pavilion, is proud of all the hard work that put into making the Houston treasure, number 1. The Woodlands Pavilion’s partnership with Live Nation has brought a lot of positive changes. It has contributed to the venue’s well-deserved milestone.

MacDonald shares that The Pavilion’s owners and everyone in the organization are thankful for having “the No. 1 concert promoter in the world, and for [a] supportive community and world-class staff.”

In 2015 alone, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion celebrated 15 sold-out concerts on the following dates:

  • March 28 – KSBJ Anniversary Show with MercyMe
  • April 18 – Buzzfest 33
  • April 24 – Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga
  • May 1 – Elton John
  • May 7 – Lana Del Rey
  • May 16 – Dave Matthews Band
  • June 12 – DISNEY IN CONCERT with the Houston Symphony
  • July 22 – Kid Rock
  • July 25 – Earth, Wind and Fire
  • August 8 – 5 Seconds of Summer
  • August 19 – Incubus &Deftones
  • August 21 – J. Cole
  • August 22 – Def Leppard
  • September 25 – Van Halen
  • September 26 – Hall and Oates

With such a wide variety of big performers holding their concerts at The Pavilion, it’s no wonder the venue’s ticket sales have soared this year.

Plus, strategically scheduling concerts a few days apart was a move that boosted ticket sales further. This encouraged concertgoers to make the most out of their stay in Houston.

The strategy skyrocketed The Pavilion’s sales in a matter of nine months.

What’s next?

There is no stopping The Pavilion from being on the top of its game.

Texans and people all over the country can still expect many awesome shows after the venue has claimed the #1 spot, beating international locations such as Waldbühne Berlin and Brisbane Riverstage.
