Autumn is certainly my favorite season so I’m sharing some super smart and easy Fall Hacks to help you get your home and family ready for the season. They are definitely going to have you saying ” why didn’t I think of these before?” 🙂
From gorgeous ways to make your home smell like a perfectly crisp fall day, to ways of preserving pumpkins all season, there is something here for everyone and every home!

HACK #1

Caramel Apple Pops!

Full size caramel apples are a Fall staple, but often messy to eat, or too big for one person. These bite-size versions are much more manageable.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup room heavy cream, room temperature
  • Salt
  • 3 apples, preferably Granny Smith

Preparation

  •  In a 8-cup microwave safe measuring cup (like Pyrex), combine the sugar, water and light corn syrup.
  • Microwave on high in 2-minute intervals until the mixture just starts to change color (this could take anywhere from 4 to 7 minutes depending on the strength of the microwave).
  •  Carefully remove from the microwave and let stand until a golden caramel forms, about 2 minutes.
  • Using a wooden spoon, stir in the softened butter, heavy cream and a generous pinch of salt. Let cool for at least 30 minutes.
  • Using a melon baller, scoop balls out of an apple.
  • Insert toothpicks or small cleaned twigs in the top of each piece, then dip them in caramel and dredge in finely chopped nuts.
  • Chill until the caramel is set.

HACK #2

How to preserve your carved pumpkin – 3 different ways

  • Rub Borax on the inside and around the openings
  • Pat the inside of your pumpkin with a paper towel and run the entire inside with vaseline.
  • Pour 2/3 cup bleach into a bucket and fill with enough water to submerge the carved pumpkin. Place the lid on and let your pumpkin rest in the water for 24 hours.

HACK #3

Bake the bugs out of your pinecones!

Pinecones make great decorations, but bake them first to eliminate bugs! It takes just about 45 minutes at 200 degrees. Keep checking them to make sure they don’t burn.

HACK #4

5 Minute Centerpiece

Need a centerpiece that take less than five minutes to make? Just place pine cones in a large bowl and place a hurricane vase holding a candle in the middle. You can usually find these hurricane vases at the dollar store!

HACK #5

Homemade Simmering Potpourri

Here is what you will need:
-the peel of one orange
-one cut up apple
-2 large cinnamon sticks
-1 tablespoon of cloves
-1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
-1 tablespoon of almond extract
-1.5 cups of water plus plenty more for refill

Place all ingredients in a pot and simmer throughout the day while adding a bit of water from time to time. Also, you can reuse this mix for three days and store it in the fridge overnight. Ta dah!

HACK #6

Toilet Paper Pumpkins Tutorial

  • 3 rolls of toilet paper
  • 3 bandanas or fabric cut in squares -fall colors
  • 1 green felt or fabric square
  • 1 paper bag (lunch bag, grocery store paper bag, whatever…just make it brown!)
  • scissors

Place one of your fall-colored fabric square right side down, place one roll of toilet paper in the center. Bring up the sides of the fabric and tuck into the hole of the toilet paper. Next, cut 4 leaf shapes out of your green-colored fabric. Tuck your leaf into the center hole. Then, you just stuff the paper bag stem into the center hole. That’s it!

Hack #7

Beautiful Dried Oranges

Dehydrate orange slices in your oven or dehydrator. What’s great about them is that you can string these to make a cute garland, add them to a candle vase or add them to a bowl of potpourri.  Place them in your dehydrator and turn on to 115 – 135 degrees. Dry them for 5 – 12 hours
